First a little history. I can remember the day it all began. June 18, 2005. The three of us were on a trip to the beautiful Santa Rosa, Florida with our families. The idea was not brand new to this trip, but this was the first time that we all got together and decided to make it happen. It was then and there that we decided on
creating Global Hiker, the original name of Mundo Maps. We brainstormed the name, the logo, and the website around the kitchen counter of the condo we were staying in. As we were putting our ideas together, the chair I was sitting in completely disintegrated beneath me and I was on the floor amongst the splintered wood. I like to relate that experience to Doc Brown hitting his head on the toilet seat and coming up with the flux capacitor. But I digress. We would then go out on the kayaks and let the idea marinate while we soaked in the famous gulf coast sunshine. Roughly two years later we changed the name to Mundo Maps. We also expanded the company to include map production as well as the original idea of a community trail sharing site. About a month or so ago, with the help of Gary Milkwick Jr, our financial advisor and tax guru, we made the company legit by incorporating. We are now Mundo Maps Inc.

REI’s biggest sale of the year starts today and ends May 11th. This is their 70th Anniversary Sale. They may have to drag me out at the end of the day. An additional bonus, is the Grand Opening for the Kennesaw, GA store. There will be a continental breakfast one hour before the store opens on May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and some free stuff for those who show up early. We will be there sporting our Mundo iron-on tees. Pretty soon everyone will be wearing one.
Remember… it’s your MUNDO. See you there.

This past Friday was the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the Trails at Boundary Waters Park in Douglas County. In attendance were the County Commissioners, Chamber of Commerce, Park Historian, Parks and Rec. Dept., and other county officials. The Trail Map created by Mundo Maps was on display for all to see. Mundo Maps was also given a certificate of recognition for their work in creating the trail map. The county newspaper also featured the event on the front page which included a picture of the map. At the time of the article Mundo Maps was not officially incorporated so we used the parent company name Fogo Networks and unfortunately we weren’t clear enough on the spelling as they printed Fogo as “FOTO”. Here is the direct link to the article. Here’s a few pictures of the event.
